Heading East at last....

We were driven from home yesterday to "the train to the plane" by our friend and neighbor RA - who was returning the favor since we drove him and his wife BR to get the plane on their trip last month to tour the "Bourbon Trail" in the mid/southeast.  No problems here until we got to the airport.  We breezed through security and waited for boarding.   Finally we boarded for our leg to Seattle - London from there. BUT after a few minutes, the flight attendants announced that there was a problem with the plane and it would take a while to fix so people could disembark and wait inside the terminal.  Fortunately on our way out, the Captain was standing near the cockpit apologizing and when we said we were concerned about our vacation connection, suggested we not sit and wait but check right away at the Air Alaska Desk (Our KLM flight turned into a Delta and Air Alaska flight since these and Virgin Atlantic are now Delta subsidiaries).  ANYWAY, by the time we got to the desk (about 2 minutes), the wonderful Alaska Air technician has already realized we could miss our flight and was in the process of booking us afresh on Virgin Atlantic!  The only inconvenience to us was having to get our bags back and going through check in and security for a new airplane.  She was so nice and helpful - remembered DW since she'd checked him in and also that we were going on vacation and should not miss our connection! The Virgin Atlantic flight left SFO at the same time as the London flight out of Seattle, was non-stop, and had the same London arrival time of around 12:30 pm today. AND we were bumped up to Premium Class by that same nice lady which was SWEET - 2 hot meals plus a snack, champagne when you were seated, pretty much unlimited drinks either seated or at the bar, and huge leather seats which in this case were bulkhead seats, not to mention a menu selection with choices and multiple movies on individual screens.  No complaints about this flight, the guitar fits nicely in the overhead bins, and there was lots of legroom along with customer service.  But now we are spoiled and will likely be impersonating sardines on our return flight in August!  Check out the legroom on our seats!!

  1. There is nothing like first class especially going overseas on a long flight...so easy to get spoiled. Hard to go back to economy!

  2. This is one example of why Air Alaska is rated number one among U.S. carriers...you got lucky. When I flew to SE Asia for my former employer I was in business class both ways and, oh boy, what a difference. Sweet - I could have cruised around the world and been perfectly happy.
