Brixton - Is it the Oakland of London?

Our arrival in Brixton was uneventful and pleasant.  On AirBnB we found a nice lower level railroad flat in a basement with a beautiful garden.  All the amenities and we are learning to appreciate Xfinity Comcast (horrors) more with the sketchy connections we have here - yes there is internet but we have to log in every time (except on the Mac Air) as it times out after a very short period - frustrating.  We are a block or two away from "downtown" aka the main drag.  Brixton has changed quite a bit when we got ourselves lost in 1985, running here from Denmark Hill (where Cousin Christie lives).  It has assumed in recent years the identity of the Oakland of London - many many young "hip" people have moved in and are displacing the Caribbean culture although there is still quite a bit of that.  In fact, in casual conversation with local folks while traveling around yesterday, when Danny said he was staying in Brixton, people commented on how "hip" it is, and by extension we are as well!  Go figure!

There is a large market section which apparently is quite well known, crowded by day with people purchasing at food and goods stands, and filled with the hipsters at night eating and drinking at many tiny mostly ethnic restaurants which pour out on the the alleyways.  Pictured below are a couple of interesting buildings, one photo taken in the evening and the old laundry very close to sunrise as you can see by the lighting.  The market shot was also early in the morning yesterday and the garden is at our rental.  We visited friends Horatio (in Oxford) yesterday and Cousin Christie and Ian last night.  Meeting up with Christie again this afternoon in Central London.  Also pictured is the amazing blue skies and sunny days we are enjoying, the first in many weeks according to my cousin.
