Arriving Copenhagen, Denmark August 19, 2019

2nd time here; first in 1981, our initial foray into Europe when we explored Scandanavia up to and around the Arctic Circle by train.

Checked into the AirBnB pretty tired after no sleep - took a three hour nap, then staggered out to FIND FOOD.  We found the neighborhood convenient to public transportation (not that we have taken any yet) and, from our front window a view of a park across the street.  Our first venture OF COURSE was to a supermarket to buy a couple of essentials.  I brought coffee with me!

The next day, August 30, was a sweet walk.  We are close to the beach so went there first.  Lots of parents with small children playing in the sand and swimming - There are several wind turbines operating right off shore, IN the water.
Above is an overlook from an elevated platform, apparently meant to be climbed for viewing.

From the beach, we headed toward Christiania, or "Freetown" within the city of Copenhagen.  It's located on an island between where we are staying in the Amager district and the downtown area.  Freetown is an alternative neighborhood, in a more wooded area with a mix of alternative housing, workshops, galleries, eateries and bars.   In the center, there are booths of of people selling marijuana and hashish.  Photographing this activity is not allowed so only one picture here.  The area is open to the public, even with guided tours(!).  We heard about this place first in 1981 from our guesthouse host - now it's advertised and is quite the crowded tourist attraction.

This photo is from a bridge crossing into Christiana.

We walked 11 miles today, back and forth and around.  Ended up in a bar near our neighborhood enjoying half liters of Tuborg beer.
